Nigel Gough, B.Sc., Dip. TP, FRICS, MRTPI

 

  • Nigel commenced his career in 1973 at Edwards Bigwood & Bewlay, becoming an Associate and Head of Town Planning in 1978 and an Equity Partner in 1983.  Following the merger with Chesterton International in 1987, Nigel became the National Town Planning Partner until he retired from the Partnership in 1991.   That same year Nigel came back to work in the Midlands as Town Planning and Development Director at Bigwood Associates Ltd.  In May 2014 Nigel became the Principal Director at Nigel Gough Associates.

  • Since 1973, Nigel has followed a dual career as a Valuer and Town Planning Consultant.  He retired as a Registered RICS Valuer in 2014.  From 1978 to 2014 he was responsible as the Head of Town Planning for Consultancy Services for his firm.  During that period he has given Development and Development Agency advice to his various Clients on a range of projects in the UK.

  • He has been an accredited consultant to the Bank of England and he has acted for Barclays Bank plc.  In addition he has acted for a range of industrial / commercial Clients, historically, including Svenska Handelsbanken AB, British Energy plc, TI Group plc, Lucas Industries plc, Glynwed plc, Smiths Group plc.  He was the Planning Consultant to St. Modwen Group plc in establishing its headquarters and business park at Quinton in Birmingham after frustrating planning refusals and Appeals.  Recently, Charity Surveyor to Dudley & West Midlands Zoological Society Ltd.  Formerly a consultant to Bryant Homes and more latterly Taylor Wimpey, Bellway Homes and Estates, Bournville Village Trust / National Trust and the Archdiocese of Birmingham.  Nigel was a member of the Bishop of Birmingham’s Finance Committee during the early part of the 2000’s. He has acted for Brasenose College, Oxford (Leominster Sustainable Urban Extension), Rubery Owen Holdings Ltd (Langley Sustainable Urban Extension, Birmingham and surplus land at Walmley), Associated Independent Stores Ltd and PMG Investments Ltd.  In addition he has advised the Congregation of the Charity of the Sisters of St. Paul the Apostle since the early 1990s on various properties in their portfolio.  

  • He has now retired as a long-standing non-Executive Director of Heritage Manor Ltd (a care home group)

  • Principal work skills include: Advisor on Strategic long-term development land releases, involvement in the majority of the emerging Local / Development Plans for the West Midlands planning authorities and other local authorities.  More recently involved in advising developers on the emerging Neighbourhood Plans.  He provides advice to Clients on the likely consultants needed to provide advice for large development projects.  More recently he has objected and represented Clients at Community Infrastructure Levy Hearings.  He has advised on proposals for Continuing Care Retirement Schemes / Care Villages / Nursing Homes and accommodation for the Elderly.

  • Since 1983, he has successfully advised on Agency disposals of residential land with Planning Permission and land releases with development potential, particularly in the Green Belt.

  • His outside interests are: Member of Chartered Surveyors Livery Company and Freeman of the City of London; Panel Member of the RICS Fellowship Assessment Board; Member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham; recent Past Chairman of Barnt Green Fishing and Sailing Clubs (Barnt Green Waters Ltd) as well as having been the Chairman of the West Midlands branch of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

  • Having worked in the property sector since 1978, initially in Property Management and Agricultural Land Agency, Gill undertook a career change in early 2000.  She elected, in 2004, to go to University, obtaining her Master’s degree in Town and Country Planning in February 2011.  She was Elected in 2013, receiving her Chartered Membership Certificate of the RTPI on the 27th January 2014. Gill is Registered with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

  • Gill undertakes a very wide range of Sustainable Planning / Development Plan and Development Control / Management activities for the Firm’s retained Clients.

  • Strategic Planning is undertaken on a national level predominantly for our retained land owning Clients.  Advice is provided on the production of representations and objections to emerging Core Strategies / Development Plan Documents involving attendance at Local Plan Examinations.  Representations currently being undertaken relate to legal Allocations for residential housing development on a national basis and Strategic land disposals mainly in the West Midlands conurbation.  Advice is currently being provided on two Strategic Urban Extensions.
